The nominees have been announced for the inaugural Golden Vines Innovation Award taking in a major wine stopper maker, a top wine school and a wine access tool.
The Golden Vines Innovation Award is one of seven honours to be announced during The Golden Vines Awards Ceremony at Annabel’s Private Members Club in London on the night of 7 October 7 2021.
The inaugural not-for-profit event is organised by Liquid Icons, the wine research and content company founded by the late Gerard Basset OBE MW MS and Lewis Chester DipWSET.
The nominees are Amorim Cork, UC Davis Department of Viticulture & Enology, the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), and Coravin.
Predicted to be the year’s most important gathering of collectors in the wine industry, The Golden Vines Awards Ceremony is designed to raise funds for The Gerard Basset Wine Education Charitable Foundation – a foundation committed to creating educational programs and career opportunities for young professionals led by Nina Basset FIH, Romané Basset, Lewis Chester DipWSET, Ian Harris MBE DipWSET, and Jancis Robinson OBE MW.
Funding will be directed to diversity and inclusion-related wine education programs, including the Golden Vines Diversity Scholarship, Internship & Mentorship Programme, which provides scholarships to two BAME / BIPOC students to undertake MW or MS course studies, as well as a significant number of other diversity and inclusion wine education programs globally.
The Golden Vines Awards will be awarded to leading members of the wine industry as voted by over 150 internationally renowned experts and sommeliers.
Commenting on Amorim’s nomination for The Golden Vines Innovation Award, Carlos de Jesus, director of marketing and communication at Amorim Cork said that it had validated the revolutionary innovations launched by the stopper producer in recent years, as well as its commitment to research and development and sustainability.

Recent examples of Amorim’s commitment to innovation according to Carlos include the newly released launch of Naturity and Xpür, technologies designed to remove detectable TCA from natural corks and to create a new segment of micro-agglomerated stoppers, respectively.
